Transition Templates: Pathways to Net Zero+
Transition Templates: Pathways to Net Zero+ is an Arts and Humanities Research Council funded research project (2023-2026) and collaboration between Dr. Joanna Boehnert of Bath School of Design and Livework’s Sustainable Futures Lab.
The project is built on the premise that decarbonisation and sustainable transitions are difficult to achieve within current design business models with single client customers. The research considers how systems-level forms of design can help build pathways for dramatic reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and support the wider sustainability agenda.
We are developing templates to help organisations map pathways for Net Zero+ in five sectors of the UK economy. The five sectors are: 1) Home Energy; 2) AI & Digital; 3) Food & Agriculture; 4) Fashion & Textiles; and 5) Higher Education. We are now prototyping our templates. Please see the slideshow for more information.
This work will inform the development of systemic-transition design processes for socio-technological transitions. We are working with sustainability scientists, researchers, and practitioners to plot transition pathways with systemic mapping practices. Specific Transition Template (TT) design process is being applied for each sector. The results of this research project will be freely available templates and other resources to support decarbonisation agendas in the UK and around the world.
We are inviting individuals and organisations in these five sectors to participate in the Transition Template process and help us refine the templates. Please fill in this survey to express your interest in participating in this research process.
